ARMEN GARO (SAG/AFTRA,EQUITY)

Grandpa 

 

Garo was born and raised in Troy, New York. He is a graduate of the Albany Academy, Albany, NY. He holds a BS in Speech Communication from Emerson College, A BS in the Administration of Justice from Roger Williams University, and an MS in the Administration of Justice from Salve Regina University. He was a 30 yr. veteran of the East Providence Police Department, in Rhode Island. Before that he was the New England Heavyweight Kick Boxing Champion with a record of 9-2 and was listed as “Honorable Mention” under the top ten kick boxers in the world by the Professional Karate Association (1982). He is a 9th degree Black Belt receiving his self defense training from the late George Pesare. He is a graduate of the Trinity Rep Conservatory, in Providence, RI. While studying there, he appeared as Mizhurev in Trinity Square Repertory Company’s production of Dead Souls, his first Equity production. Since then he’s worked at The Rhode Island Shakespeare Company playing Poins in Henry IV and Curtis in The Taming of the Shrew, The Providence Opera Company where he choreographed fight scenes for The Saint of Bleeker Street, and The Berkshire Repertory Company playing Pedro in The Man of La Mancha. A Second Story Theatre production of Bent featured him in the role of Greta, complete with fishnets and high heels. His 34 film and television credits include: Martin Scorsese's Vinyl, Providence Gangster #1 in The Departed, Dick Helsing in American Hustle, Salvatore “Coco” Cogliano in HBO’s The Sopranos, Lt. Gillardino in Showtime’s Brotherhood, Angelo in God Only Knows, Rao’s Patron in The Wolf of Wall Street, Vito Ponti in Friends and Romans, Wolfe in Whaling City, and the Dirty Cop in Federal Hill.  Some of Armen Garo's work can be seen at www.armengaro.com
